I used to always skim over Jacob 5. I dreaded having to read 77 vs. about pruning, digging and dunging. That all changed for me on the mission when I read a talk given by Jeffrey R. Holland called "The Grandeur of God". I would like to include the link, and hope that each of you take the chance to read it:

It is my testimony that as you do you will come to understand better the true nature of God. Let me know what think!

Thanks for your comments and also for the link to that great article. Dad printed it off and I just finished reading it. I was touched, also, by the Lord of the Vineyard crying out, "What more could I have done?" Sometimes I feel that way as a parent, a teacher, or a friend. It is hard to see the ones you love withering and bringing forth bitter and wild fruit. It comforts me to know that my Heavenly Father understands how I feel!
It was a very inspiring article. I had always thought the main message of Jacob 5 was the scattering and gathering of Israel. And while that is part of it, I think the greater message is God's infinite compassion towards us, and the related lesson, that we follow His example and have compassion on our fellowmen.
Thanks. I will have to read it.
